The denim round up

This season, COS have launched their best denim collection yet, featuring new styles, washes and more sustainably sourced fabrics. Here, head of menswear, Christophe Copin shares his highlights from the collection.

Over the years, denim has grown in its sartorial significance to become the hero of the modern wardrobe. Traditional workwear designs, such as overshirts and denim jackets, have taken on a new life as a casual mainstay, while a range of jean washes and fits mean they can be worn for work, weekends and everywhere in between. We live in a new era for its production too. The exposure of the environmental impact of making denim has demanded brands to sit up, take note and offer more sustainably made designs that will stand the test of time.

‘This season, all the denim in our collection is made from pre- and post-consumer recycled cotton.’

With this in mind, it’s no surprise that COS have taken their denim to new heights. Their latest collection features a selection of new styles, cuts and washes, whilst also using more sustainably sourced materials to create their best denim yet. ‘This season, all of the denim in our collection is made from 100% pre- and post-consumer waste,’ explains COS head of menswear, Christophe Copin. ‘But attention to detail still remains as important as ever. We focus on the fit and adding special details to give each piece its own identity.’

With their collection ready to take your denim wardrobe into a new – and better – era, we caught up with Christophe to take us through the key pieces and tell us what makes them special.

The denim overshirt

‘A true essential for the modern wardrobe. Our new overshirt is a lightweight alternative to the denim jacket. Cut for a relaxed fit, it features modern touches, like the top zip fastening, to sharpen the silhouette. It’s also crafted from recycled cotton, which makes use of waste materials from the production process and unused garments. This season, we’ve introduced a new washed black finish, which has a slightly vintage feel about it.'

The relaxed-fit jean

‘These jeans are a completely new cut for us at COS, wide on the leg and with a cropped length. It has a classic 5-pocket design and is made from 100% recycled cotton. Plus, it’s rivet free – meaning that it’s easier to recycle, if you do decide to part ways…’.

‘Attention to detail is key. For denim, we focus on the fit and adding special details to give each piece its own identity.’

The flared jean

‘‘The flared leg jean is our most fashion forward design. Here, we have really focused on perfecting the shape to give them an easier, more approachable feel. Cut for high-rise fit, they have a loose leg that flares out towards the hem. They’re crafted from 100% recycled cotton and come in two staple denim shades: mid blue and pure black'.

The zip-up denim jacket

‘Inspired by the traditional workwear jacket, this piece is a very functional design with minimal hardware. It features two large patch pockets at the chest and a zip fastening instead of buttons for a cleaner finish.’
