COS BUILDINGS
GRAND HÔTEL-DIEU, LYON

The Grand Hôtel-Dieu has a hidden history that dates back over 800 years. Built on the banks of the Rhône in 1184, this former hospital was first home to the monks of Hautecombe and of Chassagne-en-Bresse.

For many years, the building was a centre of medicine. The original vaulted ceilings and stone arches pictured here once contained the pharmacy and laboratory.

Over the site’s evolution, a chapel and a courtyard were added, and it was ‘crowned’ with the distinctive domed roof. The restoration of the hotel has been one of the largest listed building conversion projects ever undertaken in France. Now, it is ready for a new era.
